On September 11, to honor National Day of Service and Remembrance, the Satellite Center STAR (Students Teaching and Reaching) team members read to young students at both the East bank Headstart and Carver Early Learning Center. Each STAR team member selected an age-appropriate children’s book to read and prepared a literacy activity to engage the students. Some of the activities were to match the alphabet after hearing Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, create llama puppets to accompany the book Llama Llama Red Pajama. The young students were excited about being read to by high school students. The STAR team members had as much fun as the young students.

On September 9, the ATVB, Digital Media and Interactive Media went into New Orleans to speak with representatives from two major technological organizations: GNO inc. and GNO inc. is essentially the backbone for promoting the Greater New Orleans area through various media. “Nola” is the business in charge of the website, which writes, curates, and promotes the viewing of news articles focusing on the New Orleans area.

The Digital Media, STAR and Interactive Media courses recently joined together for a day of training on Design Thinking at the Satellite Center. Design Thinking is a human centered approach to solving problems and encourages you to design for a person, or group of people, based on their needs, instead of only your experiences or thoughts. The process was developed at the dSchool of Design, on Stanford's campus, and is used by businesses, schools, and communities around the world as a way to creatively solve problems that arise in work and life.

The Digital Media Team Members recently completed the “Who Are You” project. The Team Members created a presentation based on another Team Member with minimal communication. Each Team Member filled out a questionnaire sheet with basic information about themselves, what their expectations of Digital Media are, and what they would like to do in the future. The questionnaire sheet was then given to another Team Member to create a presentation based on the information given.

The WYES Special Report "American Graduate: Louisiana's Future" is scheduled to air Thursday, August 28th at 7:00pm on Channel 12. The show will focus on Louisiana’s new career education Jumpstart Initiative which it hopes will improve graduation rates while better preparing students for the workplace and college.
